LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Laurel County woman has been arrested for attempting to drown kittens in a bathtub, authorities said.

According to the arrest citation, Laurel County deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 11 p.m. Thursday on Chapel Road.

Authorities said when they arrived at the residence and began collecting information regarding the domestic violence incident, they heard what sounded like "multiple kittens crying next to the couch".

Upon further investigation, deputies found multiple kittens tied up in a plastic bag inside a trash can. The kittens were reportedly soaking wet and the bag they were inside also contained bars of soap.

Laurel County authorities determined Rachel Denise Joseph, 45, tried to drown the kittens in the bathtub.

The Laurel County Sheriff's Department called animal control and Joseph was arrested and charged with second-degree animal cruelty.

Joseph is lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
