I'm a bathroom expert and there are three tech changes that can save you money

THERE are three tech changes you can make to your bathroom that could save you hundreds in the long-term, according to an expert.

It turns out ditching toilet roll alone could save you £360 a year.

Automatic taps should be the first purchase to reap long-term savings, says Evan Jones of retailer Bathroom Supastore.

Automatic taps are often found in public and commercial toilets exactly for this reason: they save water - and money.

Nobody wants to pour hard earned cash down the drain, and traditional taps often have problems with leaks or dripping.

"This alone can cost you anywhere between £9 to £35 per year," Jones explains.

"Installing a motion sensor tap in your bathroom can cut down on your water usage by up to 70 per cent.

"Automatic taps don't drip, so with this in mind along with the tap shutting off when not in use you can save potentially hundreds per year."

LED Mirrors should be the next purchase, according to Jones.

"LED mirrors not only look great but depending on the bulbs you currently have in your bathroom they could be up to 40 times more energy efficient too," he says.

"Unlike traditional bulbs that you have to replace every few years, a good quality LED mirror should run for at least 50,000 hours."

Now here's how you can save the £360 you usually spend on toilet roll.

It's certainly the more expensive upgrade out of the trio, but if you want to incorporate tech into your bathroom then a Japanese toilet - or smart toilet - is as advanced as you can get.

Japanese toilets have a wide variety of functions including automatic seating which rises when you are near them, odour neutralising properties and can even play music while in use.

But there's more, says Evan.

"The last few years have been difficult on all of us, with interest rates, utility bills and everything else costing more, most of us have had to cut down where possible," he explains.

"While you may have exhausted most options, cutting back or not using toilet roll could save you hundreds of pounds a year.

"The average person tends to use around 100 toilet rolls per year and for a family of 4, this could cost anywhere between £180 and £360 depending on the brand of toilet paper that you use.

"A Japanese toilet on the other hand doesn't require you to use toilet paper and as a result, is much cheaper.

"A year's usage for a family of four will cost you less than £20."
